Castell del Remei reference is a winery in the name of Costers del Segre. Belonging to the family Cusiné, its origins go back to small wineries that Father Don Vilanova Ignasi Girona, industrialist, lawyer in Paris and influenced by French viticulture, on the farm owned Castell del Remei since 1780.
Connoisseur of French varieties, Don Ignasi Girona was a pioneer in the introduction of varieties of French origin, such as cabernet sauvignon or semillon, and studied the structures and processing methods used in Bordeaux to adapt subsequently to the development of their wines. That was how between 1889 and 1907 Castell del Remei won many international awards and is regarded today as the first winery in developing Catalan aged wines.
The company, after the death of the two brothers Girona, Joan Ignasi and became a public limited company, until in 1982 it was acquired by the family Cusiné, who totally reconverted to early 90s, revitalizing the vineyards, investing in essential equipment, new barrels and bottling line completely updated.
